Moving Forward for LGBTQ2 Canadians – A Pre-Election Statement

With the federal election approaching, a series of LGBTQ2 organizations and national networks have developed a pre-election statement for all the political parties. The link to the the statement provides more information, including the entire statement, the context, who developed it and why.

Statement (excerpt): We call on all political parties running in the Canadian Federal election to commit to ensuring that human rights for sexual and gender minorities are secure in Canada and that our communities continue to be reflected in all areas of federal policy, both domestic and international.

This statement is being circulated by a number of coalitions and organizations across Canada including: the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity, the Canadian Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network, the Community Based Research Centre (CBRC), le Conseil québécois LGBT, Dignity Network, Enchanté: the LGBTQ2 Centres Network, Egale Canada, & Fierté Canada Pride.

It’s a very broad and general statement that organizers are hoping to get a couple hundred signatories on. After that, a few of the specific networks (i.e. health, global affairs, Pride organizations, etc.) would likely develop their own sector-specific recommendations or asks of the political parties. But organizers first want to get broad sign-on for this statement.

Deadline to sign your support is September 2. Please share this post among your networks.
