Supporting capacity building of community-based organizations across Canada to provide supervised consumption services: lessons learned to-date

Date: Thursday May 30, 2019
Time: 10 AM Pacific time

In early 2017, the Dr. Peter Centre received project funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada to provide capacity building to community-based organizations starting supervised consumption services (SCS). Since then, the overdose crisis has worsened significantly and the number of facilities that have obtained an exemption under section 56.1 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to operate SCS has grown from 2 to over 40. Similarly, overdose prevention sites (OPS) have expanded in multiple provinces in the last two years. The Dr. Peter Centre has a specific model of care that emphasizes STBBI prevention activities that are accessible, culturally sensitive and relevant to different priority populations including people who use drugs and people living with HIV and/or hepatitis C. This webinar will provide a summary of lessons learned to-date from our project, including a discussion of project activities that have been helpful and ones that have needed to be revised in response to the rapidly changing landscape.
