Changes in CATIE’s Education Team

After an extensive national search, CATIE is pleased to announce that Christie Johnston has been named Associate Director, Education, effective January 23, 2019. In this new role, Christie will oversee the planning and delivery of CATIE’s education work, including blended learning, webinars and our telephone and e-mail inquiry service. Christie is no stranger to CATIE, having served in various roles over the past 10 years, most recently as Senior Manager of Special Projects and Initiatives.

After serving as CATIE’s Director of Program Delivery for the past six years, Michael Bailey is shifting to a new position as Regional Health Education Coordinator for Quebec. Having previously served in this role, Michael will leverage his extensive knowledge of the province’s HIV and hepatitis C landscape to connect with frontline service providers, responding to their knowledge needs and helping to build sector capacity.

Organizations in Ontario and the Pacific region will also be seeing a new face representing CATIE in our education work. Lara Barker, our bilingual educator for the Pacific region, will be starting a one-year parental leave in May 2019. To accommodate her absence and subsequent return to work, starting on February 1, 2019 responsibility for the Pacific region will transition to Shelley Taylor, who will also continue to serve as our educator for the Atlantic region. Shelley is the newest addition to the Education team, but with a long history as a progressive sex educator and business owner in both Halifax and Ottawa.

Between February and May, Lara and Shelley will share responsibility for the Ontario and Pacific regions as they transition into their new roles. To fill the gap during Lara’s parental leave, we are currently hiring for an Ontario educator on a contract basis. Upon Lara’s return in 2020, Lara will serve as our educator for Ontario.

On behalf of CATIE, I would like to welcome Christie, Michael, Lara and Shelley to their new roles, and I encourage you to get in touch with us about your organization’s education needs.
