Invitation to Work in the Communications and KTE committee of the National HIV Stigma Index

UPDATE May 23rd:

Dear anti-stigma friends: Please, accept my apologies, we are postponing the KTE Committee meeting scheduled for this coming Friday, May 25 until further notice. Thanks to all of you who wrote expressing interest. It is advisable to wait until after June 15 when a national group is coming together to advice on a communications plan for the remaining years of the HIV Stigma Index.

With kind regards

Francisco

Hello anti-HIV Stigma friends!!!

We have amazing people working on the KTE and Communications Committee of the National HIV Stigma Index but we always need more. Please, consider joining us. Doesn’t matter whether you are an expert or newbie or a community member or an academic, there is work for all of us.

Do you know other persons not currently involved that can participate in this or the other committees? We cannot offer additional peer honoraria at this time but we promise their experience will be friendly, fulfilling and fruitful. Youth and folks with experience and love for using media and audiovisual formats are very welcomed (e.g., theatre, photography, etc.). Francophones and bilingual folks in other languages are also super important.

Some of our KTE products to date include

  • A 5 minute video The positive Effect with the amazing in-kind collaborators Consumption.co
  • Facebook Page (5K followers)
  • In-person and on-line presentations
  • 1 online course with a focus on HIV Stigma through Continuing education at UOIT (started May 7th, with 15 students from coast to coast)

I am leading this  committee. As in the other committees, this is a hands-on working group; we do fun stuff. You can participate in one or all the activities planned.

The goals of the KTE and Communications committee are:

  • To work with the Coordinator and everyone at the HIV Stigma Index venture to achieve deliverables that include videos, workshops, factsheets, webinars, curricula, case studies, etc. (with attention to PHAC deliverables)
  • To filter, manage, and release public communications such as newsletters, web content, and media relations in partnership with NPIs and Coordinator
  • To increase capacity in this area by organizing truly participatory KTE using participatory digital and audio-visual methodologies

Our next meet meeting via web-conferencing Zoom is on Friday, May 25th from 2 pm EST to 3:30 PM EST and we will discuss the following activities, our role, what is needed, and emerging ideas. Here is the link to register in advance for this meeting:

  • Manage the day-today of the Facebook page and associated Tweets
  • Report on upcoming national communications meeting to plan for the long-term
  • Report on the Three Flying Piglets filming of a new short video on the role of peer researchers in the HIV Stigma Index
