This Thursday, December 1st, marks the annual international World AIDS Day. Sadly the importance of this day is underscored by the precarious financial situation many PAN member organizations are facing as a result of the recent funding process undertaken by the Public Health Agency of Canada for the Community Action Fund. Come April 1st, 2017, numerous organizations delivering valuable and essential front line HIV, HCV and related services across BC, are at risk of halting or downsizing, as they will no longer be receiving federal funding. Other groups, particularly those devoted to HCV related issues, will continue to not receive any funding under the new funding regime.
On this World AIDS Day, community members are joining together to have our voices heard. Join us at noon on Thursday, December 1st, for a demonstration outside of PHAC’s downtown Vancouver office outside the west entrance to the building housing the regional PHAC offices (on the east side of the inner courtyard at the Woodward’s building complex on the northwest corner of Hastings and Abbott). There will be brief speeches and placards. All are welcome to attend and to have your voice heard as we urge PHAC and the Liberal government, to reconsider these funding decisions.
