Job Posting – Red Road & PWN: Indigenous Women’s Services Advocacy Staff

Red Road PWN logoUsing an Indigenous holistic approach within a Case Management model, this position provides supportive and cultural guidance to those infected/affected by blood borne pathogens falling within the Red Road and Positive Women’s Network’s mandates and assists in enhancing quality of life by making relevant referrals to other organizations and/or agencies.

Housed at Positive Women’s Network Vancouver offices, works primarily with Indigenous
women accessing services there, or referred by other community service providers or
members. Also assists Positive Women’s Network with non-Indigenous women accessing
services as needed.

Duties: Intervention Program
1. Provides advocacy to clients by performing duties such as speaking on their behalf in
settings that include the justice system, hospitals, other medical environments, social
service agencies and the community.
2. Provides supportive guidance to those infected/affected by blood borne pathogens by
making relevant referrals to other organizations and/or agencies.
3. Facilitates/supports creation of peer-to-peer support groups.
4. Assists clients to address cultural, physical, social, emotional, and other issues related to
their illness.
5. Interviews and assesses prospective clients, as required. Using the Case Management
model and working with the client, develops a work plan.
6. Assists clients to complete their agreed upon work plans, identifying available resources,
and identifying appropriate programs, services and /or agencies using referrals, and
assistance obtaining income support.
7. Conducts information sessions with clients and develops information material to meet
clients’ needs as required.
8. Accompanies clients to meetings (including medical appointments) to act as advocate.
9. Provides information to other service providers on our mandated issues in order to
support a continuum of care for our clients.
10. Monitors clients’ work plan progress and reports concerns to supervisor for guidance.
11. Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as statistical reports
and client histories.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
