World AIDS Day – Kelowna Art Gala

Event Details/Contact: 
The World AIDS Day Kelowna Art Gala is a simple, yet elegant event commemorating World AIDS Day through an artistic medium. Local celebrities have commissioned pieces of art inspired by HIV/AIDS, and local artist Marissa Brown will be live painting throughout the event. A silent auction will allow guests to take home these pieces, the funds of which will be donated to the Living Positive Resource Centre’s Emergency Relief Fund. Guests will enjoy local wine, beer and passed hors d’ouevres while listening to the funky, soulful beats of popular local DJ Rumpus Room.

As part of AIDS Awareness Week, the ‘We Are Here’ project is a joint partnership with the Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL) The Belfry Theatre, AIDS Vancouver Island (AVI) and the Vancouver Island Persons Living with HIV/AIDS Society (VPWAS).

United in Anger: A History of ACT UP is an inspiring documentary about the birth and life of the AIDS activist movement from the perspective of the people in the trenches fighting the epidemic. Utilizing oral histories of members of ACT UP, as well as rare archival footage, the film depicts the efforts of ACT UP as it battles corporate greed, social indifference, and government neglect.
