OHTN’s Online Talk Show: What’s hot with PRAs in Canada part 6

Thursday, May 21st @2:00pm ESTOHTN

“What’s hot with Peer Research Associates (PRAs) in Canada” opens a conversation about community based research that has people living with HIV as main protagonists.

Episode 6: “Who Needs Boundaries When You Have Methods?”

Does method affect boundaries or do boundaries affect methods? No one knows more about this than peer researchers doing interviews or focus groups or even analysis. They put their private lives on the line to do research. But, where is that line…?

The lines between the professional and the personal can become blurred. Does the choice of research method make us think differently about what is acceptable? Is self-disclosure an ethical strategy for peer researchers to enhance rapport with participants? What are the challenges and where are the guidelines?

The Learning PlaceOur host: James Watson from the Ontario HIV Treatment Network and contributor to the unique online resource The Learning Place where everybody can learn the basics of community based research.

To help us discuss these issues and identify some solutions we are bringing together exciting presenters from across the country who are experts in their fields and offer unique perspectives and insight into how researcher/participant boundaries have been managed in a variety research methods.
