Evaluative Thinking with The Dr. Peter Centre

The Dr. Peter Centre (DPC) is a not-for-profit health care facility based in Vancouver that provides an integrated model of HIV/AIDS health care and support services to mitigate the risks faced by marginalized persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). Patrick McDougall, Communications & Evaluation Officer at the DPC, shared a glimpse into the evaluation work conducted by this organization. Driven by their involvement with the STOP HIV/AIDS Structured Learning Collaborative, the DPC aimed to increase antiretroviral therapy adherence by 15% and develop a measure for client engagement that could be linked to health outcomes. To measure success towards this target, the DPC applied a quality improvement framework to test and evaluate their specific interventions.

This evaluation illustrates the positive impact the DPC is having on their clients, as it demonstrates that ART adherence and health outcomes for marginalized people living with HIV/AIDS have been improved.
