CIHR Funding Opportunities – Fall 2013

The Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) funds much of the HIV/AIDS related research in Canada, including community based research. Below is a list of upcoming opportunities related to HIV/AIDS. Please visit the CIHR website for a full list of opportunities as some projects may also be able to apply for different funds.

Operating Grant: HIV/AIDS Community Based Research (Deadline November 18, 2013)

The CIHR HIV/AIDS Community-Based Research (CBR) Program assists community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations and institutions in developing the knowledge necessary to carry out their HIV/AIDS work in the most effective manner, and in creating expertise within these communities to conduct their own research. The aim of this Operating Grant program is to contribute to the creation, dissemination and use of health-related knowledge, and to help develop and maintain research capacity, by supporting original, high quality projects proposed and conducted in partnership between the community and academia.

Operating Grant: Priority Announcement (Deadline October 16, 2013)

The CIHR Open Operating Grant Program (OOGP) provides operating funds to support research proposals in all areas of health research including randomized controlled trials. There are several priority announcement areas, including HIV/AIDS and Knowledge Translation.

Operating Grant: Population Health Intervention Research (Letter of Intent Deadline September 11, 2013)

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support the prompt initiation of population health intervention research on rapidly unfolding programs, policies and resource distribution approaches that have been initiated by others (e.g., policy makers) and have the potential to impact health and health equity at the population level. This opportunity is a partnership between the CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health, in partnership with the CIHR Institute of Aging, the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative as well as the Canadian Cancer Society and the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation.

Knowledge Synthesis Grant (Deadline October 1, 2013)

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support teams of researchers and knowledge users to produce knowledge syntheses and scoping reviews that will contribute to the use of synthesized evidence in decision-making and practice.

Planning Grants: Priority Announcement (Deadline October 15, 2013)

The specific objective of this funding opportunity is to provide support for planning activities, partnership development and/or increasing the team’s understanding of the health research landscape that will contribute to the advancement of research consistent with the mandate of CIHR. There are several priority announcement areas, including HIV/AIDS, and Health Services and Policy Research.

Dissemination Events: Priority Announcement (Deadline October 15, 2013)

CIHR’s mandate is to excel, according to internationally accepted standards of scientific excellence, in the creation of new knowledge and its translation into improved health, more effective health services and products, and a strengthened health care system. An important part of this knowledge translation is the dissemination and application of health research evidence. The CIHR Knowledge Translation (KT) Branch will provide support to dissemination events/activities that focus on the communication of health research evidence to the appropriate researcher and/or knowledge user audience(s), tailoring the message and medium as appropriate. There are several priority announcement areas, including HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, Infection and Immunity, and First Nations, Inuit, and/or Métis Knowledge Dissemination Activities.
