Job Posting: Indigenous Wellness Educator, FNHA

The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) seeks an Indigenous Wellness Educator. This posting will remain open until it is filled.

In this role, you will participate and support in developing an educational model that is built with Indigenous ways of knowing, central to the core curriculum. You will develop materials for, participate in, and support working groups related to HIV, STI, harm reduction and Hepatitis health programs. You will also incorporate artistic skills in supporting resource development for the education program delivered to the community, and partner with internal resources at the FNHA regional level to respond to community requests.

 

Primary Responsiblities

• Develops materials for, participates in, and supports working groups related to HIV, STI, harm reduction and Hepatitis health programs.

• Provides program support and assistance to Nurse and Educator by responding directly to straight forward, non-complex requests, and consulting with the program manager or senior team members to resolve more complex and non-standard inquiries.

• Provides advice, support, and assistance with program reporting guidelines and tools for HIV, STI and Hepatitis health programs.

• Performs reviews and analysis of funding requests, community reports, financial statements and budgets, and provides information to program manager or senior team members.

• Analyses, compiles, and creates various reports for program manager, and communities on specific areas of program such as air travel, meals, and provider location.

• Presents and explains procedural information such as monitoring and reporting requirements, specific report content issues, and forms completion questions to community project leaders or communities who may experience difficulties with pro-forma reporting requirements. Works with these groups to define the applicability of specific reporting criteria to their respective situations.

• Identifies significant and recurrent monitoring issues, questions, and problems raised by regions and communities, and recommends solutions to the program manager, or other senior team members.

• Develops and delivers presentations to First Nation communities and/or organizations on program policies, reporting requirements, and new program requirements.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Clinical Psychology, plus three (3) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of, and ability to apply, an understanding of First Nations cultural principles and protocols in work situations.

• Knowledge of STIs, HIV, hepatitis C and harm reduction

• Knowledge of the BC Centre for Disease Control

• Knowledge of public health works

• Knowledge in sexual health for women, men and youth

• Knowledge of program planning and evaluation.

• Knowledge of funding arrangements.

• Analytical and interpretive skills.

• Problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

• Ability to use a variety of computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
